Charlisia's Story (Liver Failure)On June 13, 2013, I was diagnosed with liver failure! Jaundice had taken over my entire body, meaning my eyes, skin, and EVERYTHING turned yellow. It was very scary because at the time I had a one month old baby! Back and fourth I had been to the hospital but they would just send me home saying that my enzymes were elevated.

After a week I began to feel extremely tired, drained, and very sick! So back to the hospital I went. I was finally admitted! I remember being at the hospital that night but everything else was a blur. This is because ammonia had become present and reached my brain. Sometimes I would yell out and scream. I didn’t remember who anyone was. I was in Baptist DeSoto  Hospital for a week barely holding onto life because they didn’t have a hepatology unit and couldn’t do anything for me. My mom had to speak with the chief of the hospital.

I was transferred to Methodist University. My mom was told I needed a new liver/transplant. That night four people passed away and two of them had my blood type. I woke up June 20, 2013 with a new liver! I didn’t even know it! Though I can not do a lot and am limited I am alive and blessed to tell my story. ;)
